June 2020 posts

Hello, friends! Here's a little bit about life around here right now: What are you working on? I am deep deep deep into projects for Make It Artsy. As you can imagine, because of the pandemic, very few guests are coming to the shoot at the end of July, so I have a bit more work to do than usual. I am planning projects involving stenciling, bookbinding, jewelry making, sewing, painting, and more! This is a fun segment from last season of the show, where I demonstrate my faux shibori technique: What are you loving? The deli paper I use... Read more →

I don't know about you, but summer weather mixed with social distancing means we spend a lot of time on our porch. I discovered that an easy way to jazz up my outdoor furniture -- and make it feel more homey -- is with some throw pillows. As you can see, I made two throw pillow covers from the same quilt block pattern. But even though the pillow covers are both made from the exact some pattern, they look quite different! It all comes down to fabric choice. As you can see, I made one with solids and the other... Read more →

I've been working on a lot of Make It Artsy projects lately. Last night I was sewing up a storm, putting together quilt blocks. When I sew, I use two magical rings: a pin ring and a cutter ring. They make everything quick and easy. I do have a tutorial on making your own pin ring. Find it HERE. I bought the blinged out cutter ring years ago at Quilt Festival in Houston and you can buy your own HERE. It's an easy way to have scissors with you, without having scissors with you. 100 Days of Gelatin Printing: Days 66-72

I have fallen down a rabbit hole of nature printing and I loooooove it! Here are my most recent layered monoprints for my 100 Day Project (These images are embedded from instagram. If you can't see them, click HERE.): These nature prints are some of my all time favorites. I'm really loving printing with leaves and sticks and flowers and everything that I can pull up out of my backyard. I'm already looking around my neighborhood for different shapes and textures than the ones I can pull out of my own lawn! My live online Gelatin Printing for Beginners class... Read more →

Over the weekend I took that stamp set I carved last week... ...and I used it to print a black piece of fabric and some paper. You may recall that this was the initial print I shared last week: Here is my first alternative print -- on black fabric: And my second and third -- on paper: I turned the paper prints into cards: As you can see, it's easy to use the blocks for either fabric or paper. You can learn more about my upcoming live online block printing class HERE. Thanks for stopping by! Read more →

As I mentioned earlier this week, I'm teaching a live online week-long class on Zoom. In class you will learn how to design and carve a coordinating stamp set, like this one: ...and then print it on fabric: You can absolutely use these techniques to print on paper as well. This is a week-long LIVE online class conducted through Zoom over three days: Monday, July 27, 11am - 1pm -- Designing your multi-part image and carving your blocks. Wednesday, July 29, 11am - 1pm -- Continuing to carve, troubleshooting your blocks and test printing. Friday, July 31, 11am -1pm --... Read more →

I made another t-shirt for the baby. I really can't stop myself from making him cute little clothes! (He's resting on the quilt I made him just before he was born! I blogged about it in 2019: part one, part two, part three.) At first it just looks like a regular t-shirt... ...but then it glows in the dark! How fun is that?! You can find the tutorial on my YouTube channel. Thanks for stopping by! Read more →

100 Days of Gelatin Printing: Days 59-65

Hey friends! Here are my most recent layered monoprints for my 100 Day Project (These images are embedded from instagram. If you can't see them, click HERE.): I was feeling a little bit lost at the beginning of this week in prints. But now that I've brought some leaves into the house, I feel reinvigorated and excited. I'm really enjoying working with all the plant matter. It's making my brain have to think differently and I looooove that! I'm more than half way through this project and I still haven't tried all of the gelatin printing techniques that I want... Read more →
