Art Journal Every Day: Fixing a Mistake in my Art Journal
May 24, 2022
If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, the concept is simple: It's a commitment to take ten minutes each day to do something in your art journal. No need to finish anything or even like it. It's about making the time to nourish your creativity every day! If you have the time to flip through your phone, you have the time to Art Journal Every Day. If you'd like to share what you make, use the hashtag #artjournaleveryday so that we can all take a peek. Check the blog archives for posts going back to the first Art Journal Every Day post in 2010.
I was working on a page in my art journal this past week and I made a BIG mistake. But, I figured out how to fix it and I thought you might enjoy seeing the process.

Mistakes happen to all of us. I think the difference between those who give up and those who persist is whether or not you can see mistakes as creative opportunities. Here's a look at the page from the video and a couple of detail photos:
Finally, here is a quote about persistence from Calvin Coolidge, whose ideas I don't always agree with, but I do like this thought from him:
“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.”
I hope that you will persist in all of your creative endeavors. One of the things that I often talk about in the classes I teach is pushing past your boundaries -- real and imaginary -- to find what lies beyond! In my experience, it's always worth it. Your first idea is rarely your best and staying open to new things is an enormous key to the creative process, in my opinion. I hope you agree!
