Hey friends! Time is flying around here. My little guy is two-and-a-half and about to move up to a new pre-school class and I'm nervous about the whole thing. He seems unfazed...of course. Here's the rest of the round-up for July 2022:
What's happening at home?
My Brother and his family are visiting! Yay! It has been a year since I've seen them (they live across the country) and it has been such fun to hang out.
What's on your desk right now?
I have a huge pile of everything on my desk at the moment. The Artful Holiday starts on Monday and I've been busy with all the last minute details.
Every day I put "cleaning" at the top of my to-do list and every day I decline to check it off. Frankly, it's out of control at this point. I need to set aside some time and just go at it. The amount of space I'm currently working in is sooooooo tiny.

I saved this piece to my "Abstract" board on Pinterest.
I love how it feels so thrown together and yet has such good clear design. It's the artistic equivalent of, "This old thing?" The aggressive mark making and the scumbled paint feel so casual, but it all works so well. I love it. Plus it's a fairly neutral palette, which is something I'm attracted to, but not always good at.
Steve and I have been going to free yoga classes at our local library. I've poked around the internet and it looks like a lot of libraries offer free yoga classes. If you have the chance to sign up at a library near you, do it! I've dabbled in yoga on-and-off since college. This has been good motivation to get back to a regular practice. I noticed that one of the local yoga studios near me offers a mixture of Zoom and in-person classes. So even if you can't get to a class, I think a lot of places are offering virtual options.
If you're looking for a great yoga mat, Steve bought this one and he loves it.
It's oversized, so he never feels like he's hanging off the edges. And it comes with a carrying strap, which is super convenient. I've had my old regular sized mat for more than a decade and, alas, it has no carrying strap. I admit to having yoga mat envy.
So, that's the scoop on life around here at the moment. If you're a Monthly Member, the July personal vlog is up in the classroom and the studio vlog should be up over the weekend.
What's the difference between a personal vlog and a studio vlog?
- Personal vlogs have a lot of daily life stuff (lots of my son) and a bit of random art content. They're pretty much like the old weekly vlogs you can still see on my YouTube channel. All Members have access to personal vlogs.
- Studio vlogs are art focused on a single art project or art-related topic. Past studio vlogs include: behind-the-scenes of putting together an online class, a studio tour, a peek into my sketchbook, a look at a day in the studio, etc. Maker Members & Super Learner Members have access to the studio vlogs.
Basically, if you like these "Around Here" posts, the vlogs are this content, but more of it, and in a video format.
Thanks for stopping by!
