DIY Personalized Etched Baking Dish

Have you ever thought about etching glass?  It's super easy to do and takes almost no time.  Here's what you need:

The process is simple:

  1. Place the adhesive-backed flexible stencil on your glass object.
  2. Tape off any areas not covered by the stencil and which you do not wish to be etched.
  3. Put on your gloves.  Make sure you're in a well-ventilated area and near running water.
  4. Apply the etching cream over the stencil.
  5. Set a timer for one minute.
  6. Rinse off the etching cream.
  7. Remove the stencil.

And here's what you get:

This is easily one of my favorite recent projects.  It turned out better than I imagined, even after some trials and tribulations.  ScanNCut Club Members can watch the tutorial video and grab the cut file for the stencil I designed HERE.

As for the trials and tribulations, the bottle of etching cream I used states right on it that it won't work on some Pyrex dishes.  I was lucky enough to go through THREE different dishes before I found one that etched.  And sadly it has a logo in the bottom of it.  Sigh.  But I don't think it detracts too much from the design. Do you?

In the end, it was all worth it because this customized glass baking dish is just soooooooo cool!  Now, someone needs to invite me to a potluck so that I can bring my casserole or lasagna or baked goodies and not lose track of my glass dish!  Or, I guess I could get invited to a wedding or a housewarming and make one as a gift?  The point is, won't someone please invite me to something?! 😜  Otherwise, I'm going to have to move on to etching everything in this house -- glass cake stands and glass cookie jars and maybe even that window I'm staring at....

In the past I've etched glasses, but I think the scale of this project just made it so much more satisfying!

Thanks for stopping by!
