Around Here: March 2023

I don't know about you, but March definitely came in as a lion.  I'm not sure if it's going out as a lamb...but things do seem to have calmed down. 

Notable Family Event

We have been trotting out Candy Land in order to introduce our three-year-old to the concept of board games.

It's not going particularly well in the sense of actually playing the game. But he does seem to enjoy the board and the little pieces.  And we've been practicing colors and counting...so I'm hopeful that eventually we will be able to have family board game nights!

Notable Personal Event

I have Mom friends!  I had my son very late in life and so all of my friends have much older children.  The pandemic has made it quite difficult to make new friends with other parents of little children.  Everyone is nervous about socializing indoors.  All of that said, I have made a big effort to try and befriend some of the other parents at my son's preschool and it has worked.  Hooray!

It's wonderful to be able to chat about your life with someone in the exact same season of life.  They just "get it."

Notable Work Related Event

I'm going to do a separate blog post about Color Camp, which was fabulous!  So, I'll say that this month's work achievement is that I finally finished polishing up my portfolio. 

I have some meetings lined up and I'm glad to have a compilation of work that I'm proud of!  (Thinking I might put together a class at some point on portfolios, artist statements, photographing your art, framing, and all of that professional artist jazz.  Would you be interested?)

A Recommendation

In January I read a book that has really stayed with me: The Practice: Shipping Creative Work by Seth Godin.

I was nodding my head so vigorously while I read that it felt like an athletic event.  Check it out if you get a chance.  It's an easy read.  It's smart.  It's motivating.  I liked it a lot.
