Continuing my list of favorite art supplies, my choice for acrylic paints is Golden Artist Colors acrylic paints.  There are five types of acrylic paint that Golden offers.

As a side note, I am a certified Golden Artist Educator. Golden is an employee-owned company with high quality standards and excellent customer service. They've always been both kind and generous to me. I'm very happy to recommend their products because both the products and the company are excellent.

So, let's get into it:

SoFlat: SoFlat is one of the newer Golden paint products and it's fantastic for those of us who love matte paints. Particularly if you work in a sketchbook or art journal, you want matte paints to prevent your pages from sticking together. It has a fluid consistency (cream-like) and the colors are almost all opaque.

Fluid: Fluids are my most used acrylic paints. They're the ones I reach for both when I'm painting and when I'm gelatin printing. They're highly pigmented, easy to paint with (cream-like consistency), and come in a wide range of colors. As a collage artist, I appreciate that they don't add a lot of dimension or bulk to my painted collage papers.

Heavy Body: Heavy Body paints are thick and hold a soft peak when dry. You can create impasto effects with them or mix them with molding paste for even more body. A lot of the paint colors I mix for myself begin their lives as Heavy Body paints.

OPEN: Golden OPEN acrylics were designed to have a longer "open" time -- aka dry more slowly. Because of that, I love to use them for all kinds of printmaking applications -- screenprinting, block printing, monoprinting, etc.

High Flow: High Flow is acrylic ink. It's highly pigmented and ideal for all kinds of watermedia effects. But because it's acrylic, when it dries, it's permanent. If you were to water down Fluid or Heavy Body paints, you wouldn't get the same delicious pigment load of High Flow paints. One of the things that Golden does so well is keep the pigment load consistent across viscosities. It makes it super seamless when I use a mixture of viscosities of paint in a single piece of art.

Let me know if you have any questions about Golden acrylic paints and I'll do my best to answer them!
