I finally put together the pom pom earring tutorial that I've been promising you! This video shares the basics of how to make a pom pom using the Clover pom pom maker: And then this video shares how to make the earrings: If you don't want to make pom poms, you can buy them pre-made. These are the little gold bars I used in the video. I think they really elevate the earrings and make them feel super polished. I'm off to try to find my needle nose pliers! Thanks for stopping by! Over the weekend I had a ball (pun intended) making yarn pom poms! (And I looked up the spelling -- one word or two -- for this blog post and let me tell you, there are a lot of strong opinions, but no clear winner.) Quite a while ago, I bought some pom pom maker tools with big plans to make a bazillion pom poms for a Christmas garland. However, I never even took the pom pom makers out of the packaging. Fast forward to last week. I decided that it would be super fun to make pom pom earrings!... Read more →

Good news! Just in time for Spring, I finished my very first knitting project: a winter hat! I love how it turned out and I'm amazed that I made it! I'm ready to start on a new knitting project now. I'm thinking of something very ambitious, like a sweater. Am I insane to launch into a project like a sweater after making just one hat? Or will slow and steady plus YouTube get me there? Give me your advice, knitters! Thanks for stopping by! Read more →

As you know, I'm taking a knitting class. I'm in the midst of making a hat: knit two/purl 2. I love the delicious fat ribs that I'm creating: I have reached the end of this skein of yarn, so I'm anxious to go to class and learn how to add on new yarn! Thanks for all of your knitting tips last week. I'm really enjoying the process and finding it a very portable craft. I've only had to rip work out 3-4 times so far! Not bad and making progress! In light of all of the enthusiasm about yesterday's knitting-related blog post, I thought I'd share a post from the archives. Originally posted on August 8, 2011 (almost 8 years ago!!), this post is all about my first experience with crochet. I did intend to keep it up, but somehow it was a craft that fell by the wayside. I'm delighted to be picking up knitting now and who knows? Perhaps I'll head back to crochet too! ____ I hosted a little Crafternoon at my place this weekend. Two of the funnest and funniest guys I know... ...offered up their... Read more →

Yesterday, I had my first knitting class. I once tried to knit a scarf in eighth grade. Never finished it and kind of assumed that I couldn't knit. But, I wanted to give it another go. So, I signed up for a local class. Soooo fun! The teacher is a little bit scattered and doesn't give great instructions, but I'm already hooked (no crochet pun intended). I came home from class and looked up some knitting videos. This was my favorite: So, you may be wondering why I'm taking a class if the instructor isn't that great and there are... Read more →
