Back in May, I bought myself a one year subscription to Scrawlr Box - a subscription art supply box from the UK. Each month I share the contents of the box and my first reaction to them. This month was a particularly fine box because (a) I loved everything in the box and, (b) because of the supplies in the box, I was pushed to do some things I don't normally do! For me, that's 100% what I want out of my art supply subscription. BOX CONTENTS: Spectrum Noir Metallic Paint Markers POSCA 3M Black Marker Gelly Roll Moonlight Derwent... Read more →

My third Scrawlr Box arrived last week. I opened it up and tried it out and ended up making this: I had the camera running, so you can watch the video if you want all the details: I was delighted to open the box and find alcohol inks instead of pens! Yay! Here are a few more pros and cons: PRO: Yay for Yupo paper. It's a great surface for many kinds of mediums and if you haven't tried it out yet, you should. CON: I wish that they had included (a) instructions for opening the alcohol ink bottles, and... Read more →

My second Scrawlr Box arrived last week. I opened it up and tried it out and ended up making this: I had the camera running, so you can watch the video if you want all the details: Once again, these are not supplies that I need or would have chosen, but I still enjoyed trying them out. I threw the pencils into my colored pencil stash (it's a red Solo cup). The watercolor paints are sitting on my desk staring at me. I can't decide whether to keep them or donate them. The brush went into my stash -- it's... Read more →

I've been wanting to try out an art subscription box for a while. In my scrapbooking days, I loooooved kit clubs. So, I did some research and settled on ScrawlrBox. It's a UK-based art supply box. Because it's UK-based, there are art supplies in it from brands that are less common in the USA. I purchased a 12-month subscription and figured I'd really know after a year whether it was a good or bad fit. Because I'm in the US, my May box arrived in June. Here are the contents: I go into great detail about everything in the box... Read more →
